Dear Friend,

Ten years ago on this day, I was helping to prepare SINI’s ground to receive the Bodhi Tree sapling that had been carefully carried by the monks of the Anuradhapura Temple in Sri Lanka.

The Anuradhapura Temple has the distinguished and truly remarkable history of caring for the only known surviving sapling from the original Bodhi tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment over 2500 years ago. Descendants from the original Bodhi Tree become sacred not only through lineage but also in their own existence. Like this incredibly resilient Bodhi tree, each sentient being is sacred through lineage and in their own rooted self. What a joy and privilege that we at SINI get to work on these dimensions of human expression and goodness!

Looking at photo archives from the past ten years, I was deeply moved by the sheer number of people and projects that have transpired through the blessings of SINI’s location, mission, and vision. For these blessings, I am deeply grateful to my father Tarthang Rinpoche, and his commitment to ripening karmic seeds into virtue as swiftly and as generously as possible.

At the start of this new decade, SINI will continue to play a role in creating spaces for dialogue and action with the inherited wisdom of the Dharma and the language of the present. Between these two forces of roots and branches, SINI’s sacred tree has thrived. All that SINI has become is surely because of you!

May it be a blessed year ahead for all. If you have an idea that you think could blossom with our collaboration, please feel free to reach out to us. We are honored to dream and realize it together.

With deep appreciation,
