Sarnath Dharmachakra Program

Every year since 2016, we host the ever-growing Sarnath Dharmachakra program with the Light of Buddha Dharma Foundation.

In October 2019, SINI offered accommodation and meals to 100 monks from Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Laos, and Nepal. Having just come out of a three-month vasa, or rains retreat, they begin their pilgrimage. The culmination of this pilgrimage was the annual Tripitaka Chanting Program in December at Bodhgaya.

Monks from Theravada and Mahayana traditions express interest in learning more from each other. They find multicultural and interdisciplinary exchange vital to creating a more vital and inclusive method for teaching the Dharma. Each year that we collaborate, new ideas and synergies develop.

The monks sit under beautiful Neem trees with a view of the Dhammekh Stupa. Each country has the opportunity to recite the Dharmachakra sutra. Most monasteries from Sarnath participate. The Dharmachakra program unites monastics from the Kagyu and Nyingma Monasteries, and the Central University of Tibetan studies.
