FINDING BEAUTY IN MONSOON SEASON
This year’s monsoon season carried both challenges and quiet joys to SINI’s EDP Program. With the rains came frequent power outages, unstable internet and cell service, and delayed travel after the conclusion of the summer session. But with these interruptions also came opportunities to connect and be still.
During dark evenings without electricity, we enjoyed candlelit dinners of noodle soup (thukpa, ཐུག་པ) to keep us warm and cozy for the rainy night ahead.
During internet and cell outages, the dining hall balcony became a gathering place to enjoy chai and unhurried conversations while watching the rain fall.
During postponed travel and the reconstruction of broken roads, we took advantage of the extra time together by organizing group study sessions based on individual subject interests.
There were so many unexpected moments of calmness in the foothills of the Himalayas this summer!
THE ART OF MOMO-MAKING
As the EDP Summer Program came to a close, the tables turned… with our students becoming teachers, and our teachers becoming students in the art of making momo!
We celebrated community, culture, and flavor by making momos together. ‘Momo’ (མོག་མོག) is a Tibetan word that describes a type of dumpling. These traditional dumplings are unique to Himalayan communities, originating somewhere between Tibet and Nepal.
