Rinpoche’s 90th Birthday

Rinpoche’s 90th Birthday

Dear Friend,

On October 10th, we celebrated Rinpoche’s 90th birthday! I asked him before his birthday what would be a nice way to celebrate and he replied with kind eyes and silence. So I understood, even before asking the question, that this birthday and his other birthdays did not need to be highlighted in any particular way. Nevertheless, I think it is meaningful to celebrate his continued inspiring presence and limitless meritorious activity in this world.

Continuing on through all the forces of hopelessness and darkness that this world seems to be increasingly enveloped by Rinpoche carries on with the steadfast determination of a skilled sailor at sea. These storms will pass, darkened clouds will give way to clear skies and smoother sailing. But even if they don’t immediately, we can be centered in stillness and quiet courage. We can keep our commitments and be caring and careful in body, speech, and mind. We can also be relaxed and joyful, offering twinkly eyes and a warm smile to others and ourselves.

On the eve of his birthday, I invited you to choose one gesture, be it small or big, and offer it as a gift for Rinpoche’s longevity and peace in the world. From around the world, I received beautiful gestures and commitments. All of our actions, even the seemingly small and inconsequential ones, ripple outward in widening circles of positive energy and light. Thank you for joining. Please enjoy some of the photos from celebrations at SINI.

With appreciation,
