Dharma Preservation

At SINI, we preserve the profound wisdom of Tibetan Buddhism through comprehensive preservation efforts that protect and maintain the sacred texts, cultural heritage, and linguistic traditions for future generations.

The Institute's preservation mission centers on groundbreaking scholarly projects that make rare Buddhist texts accessible to contemporary audiences through our Kagyur Karchag Project, which brings together more than 50 researchers from all five major traditions of Tibetan Buddhism to examine the 368 sutras that compose the Kagyur, creating the first-ever comprehensive encyclopedia of the Buddha's teachings in Tibetan.

Our preservation efforts are deeply connected to the Yeshe De Text Preservation Project, founded by Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche in 1983, through which more than 10,000 sets of the Kanjur have been offered to the Tibetan Sangha and an enormous treasure of sacred books have been printed and distributed to the Tibetan community.

Through our comprehensive Tibetan language education programs, from the Tibetan Alphabet and Reading Pre-Course through Advanced Classical Tibetan Online, we ensure that future dharma holders can access teachings directly from primary sources while maintaining the precision and nuance that translation cannot always capture.

Our preservation work represents a sacred commitment to maintaining the unbroken continuity of Buddhist wisdom, ensuring that the precious teachings of Tibetan Buddhism remain vibrant and available for the benefit of all sentient beings, both now and for generations to come.

Text Preservation, Translation & Publications

Scholars from all major Tibetan Buddhist traditions collaborate to preserve and translate Buddhist texts through projects like the groundbreaking Kagyur Karchag encyclopedia. Ancient Buddhist wisdom becomes accessible and relevant for modern audiences through systematic preservation, translation, and publication efforts.

Art & Cultural Preservation

Creative collaboration between artists, sacred murals, and interdisciplinary workshops preserve Tibetan Buddhist cultural traditions. The work maintains authentic cultural expressions while fostering bridges between Eastern and Western artistic traditions.

Language Preservation

Comprehensive educational programs and immersive study preserve and revitalize classical Buddhist languages including Tibetan, Sanskrit, and Pali. The work ensures these sacred languages continue to serve as living vehicles for Buddhist wisdom and cultural transmission across generations.
