For Monastics Only
Prerequisite: English for Dharma Purposes 101
The Basics
Topics focus on people and cultures around the world, major world religions, and important concepts in Buddhist philosophy. Students expand their understanding of English stress patterns, sentence structure, compound tenses, and Dharma vocabulary so they can communicate about more complex ideas.
By the end of the course, students will be able to speak and write about philosophical topics, describe ideas clearly, and connect their knowledge of Dharma to the wider world.
Course Structure
The course is divided into twelve units, each focused on a theme related to culture, religion, or philosophy.
Each unit introduces new pronunciation patterns, vocabulary, grammar structures, and discussion skills.

“Before, I couldn’t speak English. Before I came to SINI, when I would see a foreigner, I would try to escape from them! I would see a foreigner and think, ‘Oh, what if he asks me something and I can’t reply? I’d better escape!’ I feel proud of myself these days because when I see a foreigner, I try to speak with them.”
