Tenzin Ghegay Ph.D., was born at Sarding Gyaton in Eastern Tibet. He began his primary education in the Tibetan Children’s Village Schools in India after escaping from Tibet in 1994 In 2001, he joined the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies and received his Shastri (Bachelor) degree in Tibetan Studies in 2008, and Acharya (Master) degree in Indian and Tibetan Buddhist Philosophy in 2010, Shesha Shastri (Bachelor of Education: B.Ed.) Honors in Tibetan Language and Literature in 2011. He completed his Ph.D. in Tibetan Studies in 2018 from the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (CIHTS) Sarnath, Varanasi. Before moving to the US in 2022, he also worked as an Interim Principal and Vice Principal/Dean of Specialized Studies, and Head Librarian of the Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education, Bangalore, 2020-2022.
Tenzin Ghegay joined the Nyingma Institute in Berkeley, California, as a Tibetan Language Teacher while also working for the Yeshe De Text Preservation Project. He serves as Chief Research Assistant for the Yeshe De Digital Library. At SINI, he served as Chief Research Assistant and Coordinator for the Kangyur Karchag Project for 2018 – 2020
