Doug Nurnberg has been a student of Tarthang Rinpoche since 1976. Following the winds of karma, he came to work at the Odiyan Retreat Center. He was a resident worker and student with Rinpoche until 1983. From 1983 to 2004, he was a teacher and coach in Colorado and Arizona, returning to Odiyan periodically for work retreats. In 2004 Rinpoche asked Doug to come to Ratna Ling to act as the Project Manager for the Ratna Ling retreat center buildout. In 2011 he came to SINI to help finish the construction of the Sarnath International Nyingma Institute. Since 2011, Doug has dedicated about six months a year to looking after all SINI construction, maintenance, garden, and miscellaneous projects. He has supervised the construction of Four World Peace Bells in Bodhgaya, Tashi Ding, Swayambhu, Nepal, and Shwedagon, Burma.
